Knox County Sheriff’s Office Alerting Public of Scam

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office would like let the public know about a scam going around locally. According to officials, the scam is a phone scam where a caller states he is an officer and attempts to solicit funds from the family of people incarcerated or recently released from our jail. According to authorities, the newest variation of the scam is that an offender was released improperly and needs to pay for ankle bracelet monitoring, and tells the family member they have to send money electronically to them, or the offender will be re-arrested. Sheriff’s officials say that  these Scams all have two things in common. One thing, according to authorities is that they prey on the emotions of the vulnerable, and they want the victim to transfer money. Law enforcement officials say that they nor the courts will never call you on the phone and ask for money. If someone calls you on the phone and asks that you send them money, you are asked to hang up and call the police.
