The Vincennes Redevelopment Commission met Thursday Morning at Vincennes City Hall for the month of July.
At the meeting, RDC officials provided updates on TIF funded housing projects. The commission mentioned there is some work on the Broadway Place project dealing with the watershed. The commission also mentioned that DC Developers have worked on different properties. Bierhaus Flats construction is underway and Tyler Simmons is currently waiting on liens to be removed from a property on Perry Street. Steve Blinn and Marc McNeese were on the agenda to talk about a housing rehabilitation program, but were not able to meet with the agency involved prior to the meeting.
John Anderson from Anderson Partners was on hands to talk about the proposed Firehouse Flats development. Anderson says that the property would have 89 properties and would try to incorporate some historic elements from the area. Anderson mentioned $4.4 million of funding was approved so far with a request for TIF funding. Of the funding available, $4 million was from a Lilly Endowment with the $400,000 from READI funds. The total cost of the development would be in the neighborhood of $24 million. Anderson mentioned that the Firehouse Flats development would be market rate and would feature studio, one and two bedroom apartments with a potential for maybe a few 3 bedrooms depending on the layout. Anderson says if everything is approved funding wise, the project would begin next summer with construction. One concern that came up involved parking for downtown. Officials say parking wouldn’t be an issue as the public will still be allowed to use the lot for parking.
A motion to continue to work behind the scenes while funding is getting squared away was approved unanimously
