
Vincennes Board of Works Met Monday
The Vincennes Board of Works held their first session of the month of July Monday Evening at Vincennes City Hall.
Reports came in from Vincennes City Fire, the Vincennes City Inspectors Office, and the Vincennes Animal Shelter.
According the Chief Brett Bobe, the Fire Department made 1785 calls of service for the year 2025 and 3925 training hours to date.
In the latest report from the City Inspector, Brad Snyder told Board of Works Members, 77 Permits were issued for $108,532. In violations, 145 violations were handed out with most of the violations involving notices to cut high grass.
In the report from the Vincennes Animal Shelter, Leah Ragen told the board that they took in 59 cats and 72 positive outcomes. 45 dogs were taken in with 11 from the county. 60 positive outcomes were reported with 14 adopted, 17 return to owners, and 29 dogs went to rescue. Bids were taken under advisement for the Hart Street Sidewalk Project, awaiting review from the city engineer.. Myers Contracting LLC was the low bid on the project at $286,704 followed by Kern’s Excavating at $305,915 and Hendrickson Concrete at $438,253.36
Stephen Hensley with the Vincennes Fire Local 664 appeared before the board to thank Mayor Yochum and the City for use of the restrooms, the street department for the road closures, and Brian Grove for the use of tables for the food trucks for 4th of July.
In closures and rental approvals, the Party at the Pavilion Event was approved unanimously for August 3rd at the Riverfront Pavilion.. Kids Equipped to Achieve also is holding an event on August 2nd. That will involve a street closure on Broadway between 3rd and 4th Streets on the 2nd from 8 AM until 2 PM. Dick Vermillion appeared and requested use of the Pavilion and various street closures for Lincoln High School Homecoming on September 12th Cutter’s Way would be in charge of the beer garden for this year’s festivities. Finally, the board approve the closure of several streets for the Knox County Watermelon Festival that is set to take place August 2nd, pending approval of the 5k route. The board also approved the hanging of the United Way Day of Caring Banner for September 8th thru the 19th with the event happening on the 19th.
